In the UK, the relevant Anti Money Laundering laws and regulations first became effective in 1994 with further amendments being introduced in 2003 and 2007.
On 15 December 2007, the Money Laundering Regulations (MLR) came into force.
In 2012, MLR’s scope was extended by way of The Money Laundering (Amendment) Regulations 2012 which provided the power for professional supervisory bodies to share information with each other.
The responsibility for regulating AML provisions and controls rests on multiple entities.
